We had a new water heater installed, and now have 2 problems we never had before
1) Have to run the water for 5 to 8 minutes before it becomes hot
2) When the shower is running, can’t use sink in master or you scald the person in the shower
We hired Eastside Plumbing to help us solve these problems. The Scottsdale plumber who came listened to our
problem, and then told us some long story about how residue build up in an older water heater will
help the system to work better, and that our new heater, without the build up, will have problems.
Then he checked our re-circ pump and said it was off, and he set it for us, and said in about a week
it would fix the problem of the water not getting hot for several minutes. He promised to return if
this did not help. It has been 10 days, and there is no change, but when he was informed of this, he
never offered to return. He just wanted to tell us how to fix it ourselves.
As far as the problem with the shower scalding you if anyone uses a sink while you are in the shower,
he said he had no idea why that happens, and he made no attempt to figure it out. He charged us
around $130 for this.
Water Softener
He tested our water, and said it would not be worth trying to figure out what was wrong with it
because it is old, around 8 years. He gave us a price, said he would order us a new one, and call us
to schedule installation.
We never heard from him or Eastside Plumbing again.
I called them today, to let them know that I feel like I was taken advantage of, and that I am very
surprised, given the good rating on the internet.
The owners wife talked and talked and talked, but did very little listening. She was really nice, but
I could not get a word in edge wise. She promised to have the original plumber call me.
He never did.
So I began to research on line, water softeners, and to learn more about them. I called Eastside
Plumbing again to get the results of my water test, because there is a calculation you can do to
figure out what size and type of water softening system you need, if you know your hardness in
grains. They took a message, and eventually the Scottsdale plumbers called me back . It turns out he never did
this calculation, and I would have to say sadly, that he knows less about water softeners then I do,
after only 1 hour of reading. He had picked out a system totally inadequate to our needs, and he
could not really answer any questions about it.
They may be good plumbers, although you could not prove it by our experience, but it is pretty
obvious that they should not be selling water softener systems, unless they want to invest the time
and energy to educate themselves about these systems so they can really help to give people the right
equipment for their needs.
Being pleasant and friendly does not make you competent, or ethical.I don’t need a friend, I need a
good plumber. We definitely threw $130 in the toilet, no pun intended.
